The New York Jets’ charter buses, led by a police escort, pulled up to their suburban Indianapolis hotel at 5:15 p.m. Friday — 27 hours before kickoff.

Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum were the first two people off the first bus. Ryan was nattily attired in a gray suit. He grabbed his luggage and proceeded directly into the hotel, with a serious look on his face. Ditto, Tannenbaum.

A handful of reporters and TV cameras, mostly from Indianapolis, were kept in the bitter cold as they awaited the arrival. The Jets’ designated team spokesman, FB Tony Richardson, stopped by the shivering media contingent and fielded a few questions.

“The regular season is over,” Richardson said. “It’s time to get down to the real business.”

Richardson isn’t from the Ryan school of bravado, which probably is why he was chosen for this brief Q&A — that, and he’s the elder statesman, arguably the most respected player on the team.

An Indy reporter wanted to know about the team’s confidence level.

“The only confidence we have is we feel prepared,” Richardson said. “The coaches gave us a good game plan and now we have to execute it. It’s not an arrogance thing, but we’re definitely confident. We feel if we play well, things might go in our favor.”

Another Indy person asked about Ryan’s celebrated confidence and whether it puts additional pressure on the players.

“We love that,” Richardson said. “Sometimes he takes criticism for it, but he takes a lot of pressure off us.. He puts it out there. As players, all we have to do is play the game.”

Ah, yes, the game. Let’s get to the game. Enough hype already.
